The Fancy Khullad

Virginia winters can be ruthless. But with a hot cup of my favorite brew - chai, the cold winter seems a little less fierce. My chai time has become a little more exotic and fancy these days with my new Khullad style tea cups. They momentarily whisk me away to India by conjuring up images of tea served street style.
These organic looking handmade ceramic tea cups from World Market are available in a variety of earthy  tones.  Their subtle variations and imperfectly perfect ridges, make the cups one-of-a -kind. The handle-less cups not only warm your insides but also keep those hands nice and warm, a comfort during winter. If you have been raking your brains for gift ideas this coming holiday season, these kitchen staples make perfect gifts without breaking your bank.

Have a wonderful day !!!

Bringing Home Craft By World Market

You'll have been familiarized with the novel concept of "Craft By World Market" in my earlier post. I'm always on the look out for rare and one-of-a kind products, so as to make my home or my wardrobe as unique as me. With Craft offering a unique range of limited edition products, it's wonderful that I have access to global treasures just a click away.
A week back, I placed my first pre-order with them for the Lalita Hand stitched scarf. The hand woven details, rich colors and the fact that it's made in India was reason enough for me to fall in love with this piece. I had my fingers crossed and hoped that this product would reach the target pre-order quantities, if not owning this product would only be a dream. But finally a mail popped up in my inbox and Voila !!! The order was confirmed.  It's a long wait (7 months), before this product can be brought to life. But for something so exquisite, I can wait. It will still be pretty nippy here  in Virginia when the package arrives, so I can put the Lalita scarf to good use as a stole or make it a part of my home decor by using it as a throw:)

Some of the other products that are on my wish list are :
Raya Ceramic serving platter (still up for grabs)
The hand of Fatima door knocker ( Sold out. This is on my wish list when I visit Morocco)

Keep watching this space for more such wonderful finds........

Have a Seat

Every home should have an "Accent chair" or a "Statement chair" and it should fit you like your favorite sweats. By that I mean, your chair should be a comfortable quay that holds you for hours without any discomfort. And as the word "statement" suggests, these pieces of furniture should be able to hold their own in a room and enhance the style quotient of the room all while they speak tons of your personality.
I've been meaning to do a post on the accent chairs in my home for a long time now. So when a representative from One Kings Lane contacted me to collaborate and introduce their Complete Guide to Modern Chairs and do a post on my very own statement chair in my home, I was more than game. I've had to go through the demanding task of finding the perfect accent chairs for my Indian style living room and another pair for my modern, clean line entertainment room. It was challenging to work with two very different styles at the same time. But never the less, I think we did accomplished what we set out to do.
The basement in my home has been dedicated to watching TV and it's where we entertain friends and family on a game night. Since it's secluded from the rest of the home, my husband and I decided on a contemporary look for this space, and that meant furniture pieces with modern and clean lines. We looked high and low and when we couldn't find what we wanted in the market, we went the custom designed way. Our quest ended at the Belfort Design Center. We zeroed in on the modern swoop arm chairs that combines the elegant form with the modern function we were looking for. With a wide variety of swatches to choose from, we finally agreed on a graphic pattern for the upholstery. With sleek, clean lines complemented by the graphic pattern, this chair creates a lovely space to linger in and is super comfortable.
And for those of you wanting to add an eclectic feel to your decor through a statement chair, I have you covered too. The chairs in my Indian style living room had to have the Desi Vibe. And that meant bold color palette and an intricate pattern play. So when we found these slipper chairs from the Ravenna Collection at World Market, we were sold. These arm less chairs were perfect without the boxy look and they did not overwhelm the space. With a profile reminiscent of a laid back look and walnut finished whimsical turned legs, their wide seat is perfect to put your legs up and sit back and enjoy a cuppa.
The designers at Herman Miller believe that a chair is meant to fit the body like a piece of clothing and I couldn't agree with them more. Do take the time to research and invest wisely in a piece of furniture that is going to stay with you a while. Remember comfort is the key element as comfort adds harmony to style and balance to form. And if you've been stumped about your personal style or what genre of style a piece of furniture belongs to, then the Home Decor Resource Guide at One Kings Lane was created to inspire and educate home decor enthusiasts like your self when purchasing and styling the perfect pieces of furniture for your home. For self taught design addicts like me, a design tool like this is an invaluable source of inspiration and knowledge. So if you need that extra nudge to identify your style go right ahead and click here. If your anything like me and can't stick to a particular style, then eclectic is the way to go as a fresh mix of chairs from different genres can definitely add spunk and personality to any room !

And don't forget to make it a Happy Wednesday !!!

CRAFT By World Market

I'm sure you'll will agree with me, when I say that World Market has the most stunning and  affordable global decor. If you haven't heard of their CRAFT COLLECTION, well then, let me fill you in.
Their new venture, CRAFT by World Market takes online shopping to a whole new level. Whetting the appetite of folks who are in search of signature pieces for their home, the CRAFT venture seeks to bridge the gap between the artisans and the demand for handmade products globally.
Offering an exclusive range of limited edition products that are not available at the World Market retail stores, these products need to be pre-ordered.  The laborious effort that goes into making these one-of-a-kind handcrafted products, make it impossible to manufacture them in huge quantities. That's where the CRAFT from World Market comes in. If the prerequisite pre-order quantities are met, the product is manufactured and shipped. Now that's a novel way to shop for exclusive finds, without having to leave the comfort of your home !!!

To shop by craft and browse their entire range of product catalog click here.

As I leave you drooling over these gorgeous finds, I hope you have a wonderful day !!!

My Blogging Headquarters/Adda (Home Office Reveal)

Imagine sharing your work space with a 7 year old........you get the idea, right??? That's one of the main reasons why our master bedroom redecorating project has been stalled to prioritize our home office makeover. But I must tell you that this makeover has been a fun family project. Even my 7 year old has pitched in to complete this space. As a result of which he claims this space belongs to him now.......so we are back to square one.

I'm going to let the space wars sought themselves out, but for now, I'm going to walk you through the thought process that went into creating our home office space aka my blogging headquarters/adda. We started off by looking for a large sturdy work table to house our desktop and much needed office supplies. We try to run things on a more or less paperless system where ever we can. That meant filing was not a big issue to deal with. After scouting around for the desk, we zeroed in on the Linnmon workstation from IKEA. A quick trip to IKEA and we came back with the desk, desk lamp, RIBBA frames and matting (imagine matting for $0.99 each). I love IKEA !!!

Next came the paint color. We went bold this time around. Our workstation is an extension of our bedroom so we wanted a look that was cohesive with the rest of the space. To contrast the Amber Wave (Sherwin William) in the bedroom, we headed in the direction of Relentless Olive (Sherwin William). And what's not to love about green.......said to have positive connotations and referred to as the color of rebirth and energy, we knew it would come to our rescue in the cold winter months, when the outsides are sporting nothing but a dry monochromatic landscape.
As the paint took its time to cure, we got cracking on the "Inspiration Wall" (as we like to call it). The the purpose of this wall is to provide visual stimulation. By marrying original artwork, color, inspirational quotes and other prized possessions such as favorite photographs and travel memorabilia, we were able to achieve the look we wanted. The credit for the original artwork has to be given to my son. He was experimenting with my photographs on the Waterlogue App, and the images he was churning out looked absolutely beautiful. On the spur of the moment I decided these would look perfect in my blog adda. Voila! With a printer at my disposal, I had original art in no time.

Since I wanted an eclectic vibe to the space, I went with the idea of adding a shadow box, a Sri Lankan mask and a paper mache alphabet "G" to personalize the space. The shadow box is filled with my favorite pictures, my son's artwork and my grandmother's silver key bunch. Making the most of the shadow box frame, I used it as a mini ledge to display small brass nick-knacks. Our favorite family inspirational quote (the one you see here) was created using PicMonkey. It's another great way to add inexpensive customized artwork to your walls.

Once the inspiration wall was dealt with, it was time to accessorize. Instead of buying the conventional office organizers, I shopped around the house and found containers that I could put hard at work to organize my office clutter.
Knowing me, a touch of green was a must. Low maintenance plants like the money plant and succulents are perfect for an office space. In colorful ceramic containers, they add an organic element to the space.
Task lighting came next. The table is set up by a large window that back up into a tree save line. So there's plenty of light flooding the space during the day. However, we added the IKEA Tertial lamp to throw light on the task at hand once the sun goes down. (Another important aspect that should be considered while adding lighting to a work space that is a part of the bedroom is, that the lighting does not hinder your partner's sleep in the room. Care should be taken to choose a light that would illuminate only the required work area.)
And finally, we placed the Anthropologie Terai chair (I found mine on Craigslist) and a love seat from World Market that was perfect for this space. A couple more embellishments in place and we were all done.

We love how this space turned out. I now spend long hours here studying, working on assignments, paying bills, painting, editing photographs, day dreaming and blogging. All you need is a little imagination and a comprehensive list of what the space needs to function as. The rest will fall in place......... well not really, I'm yet to deal with the 7 year old usurper ;)

Hope you enjoyed the tour of my home office and found inspiration to create your own.

Have a fabulous day !!!
