Come September and......

It feels good to be back to blogging after a 3 week hiatus! I've thoroughly enjoyed the summer this year and am having a tough time letting go of it. But you know what, change is the name of the game and I'm all set for all that is to come.....and by that I mean the change of season, the pace of life and also a change in the place that I call home! Like I mentioned earlier, we will be moving to our new home next month:) While brown boxes and chaos seems to rule my life right now and packing seems like an endless task, I know at the end of it all, it's going to be so worthwhile and you get to enjoy another decorating journey with me........
But for now, I'm going to fill you in on what I've planned for this month, over a steaming hot cup of chai of course.....
  • Exploring Summer flea markets has been fun and I've been lucky enough of find some wonderful new additions for our home. Will be sharing all of my fabulous finds in an exclusive post.
  • Next, Ganesh Chaturthi festival is just around the corner and this time I plan on exploring Ganesha's in different materials and textures. Will also be sharing product reviews and introducing you to lifestyle brands that can help you spruce up your home for the coming festive season.
  • In the artist/shop segment we have a one-of-a-kind jewelry label feature and a first look at the portfolio of a new age artist.
  • And finally, a  wonderful-wonderful home tour......

Does that sound like another month of colorful and inspirational posts? Stay connected, as you don't want to miss out on these:)

Longwood Gardens through my Lenses

The sprawling 1000+acres of "Longwood Gardens" (Pennsylvania) are known for their expertly manicured gardens, rare collection of plant life, majestic fountains and captivating seasonal displays of vibrant blooms. This Mother’s day my son and husband surprised me with a wonderful day at these magnificent gardens. Founded in 1906 by Pierre S. du Pont (an industrialist), the Longwood Gardens started as a small family farm with Pierre’s objective being to save a collection of historic trees. But since then it has matured into a horticultural showpiece that draws over a million visitors annually! This post is going to be a photo essay of sorts and that means I’m going to let the pictures do most of the talking for me.

With over 25 outdoor garden displays to explore and a 4 acre indoor conservatory, the botanical masterpiece takes over 5 hours to tour. If you are visiting these splendid gardens make sure to wear a comfortable pair of shoes and load up on sunscreen and water. So let's get started, shall we?

"Idea Garden" - The whole purpose of the Idea garden is to encourage experimentation and sample artistic new combinations of flower pairings. At this time of the year, flower beds teeming with over 75,000 tulips made for some breathtaking scenes.

I thought I had seen it all when it came to tulips, apparently not! Look at the deep colors and do take notice of those frayed edges of the petals....aren't they exotic?
"Flower Garden Walk" - Sweeps of pretty sunshine hues along a brick walk guide you through one of the original gardens laid down by Pierre himself. I've been told that "The mix of flowering plants changes with the seasons and progresses from cool lavenders and blues to fresh pinks, reds, oranges, and warm yellows".

"Square Fountain" - Bursts of colorful Poppies cradle the square fountain and makes for a delightful setting.
"Forest Walk" - the meandering paths of the forest walk takes one back in time.....Experience Pennsylvania’s virgin forests like it was in the past! With spring being the season incharge, colorful carpets of blooms flank either side of the walkway making the experience at Longwood an unforgettable one.
"Large and small lake" - makes for an ideal resting spot to relax those tired legs. Look around and take in the beauty of the spring-fed lakes and the kaleidoscope of colors marking the banks of these water bodies. Another ideal season to explore Longwood gardens is Fall. With colorful foliage making for a scenic backdrop, the photo opportunities are endless.
"Topiary Garden" - is a work of art with sculptural shapes in verdant hues delighting visitors of all ages.
"Wisteria Garden" - The timing was perfect as these beauties bloom in the month of May. Knotty branches of these striking flowers are pruned and trained into three-tiered forms drawing bees and visitors alike with their gentle fragrance!
"Orangery" - Is the most impressive greenhouse that I've seen till date! Part of the 4 acre conservatory, it features an ever-changing display of flowers and foliage.

"Bonsia Display" - Trained meticulously, each bonsai is nothing less than a piece of art. Some of the bonsai's date back to the early 1900s!
Silver garden : houses plants mostly succulent variety from the Mediterranean and desert regions.
"Peirce-du Pont House" - Constructed in 1730, the house has experienced a sea of change over the centuries. The house now contains the Longwood Heritage Exhibit that showcases "a collection of historic photos, artifacts, home movies, and video that tells the story of the stewards of the land who preserved and developed the property".
I love how the Japanese Wisteria outlines the architecture of the Peirce-du Pont House!
With that we come to the end of the virtual tour of Longwood Gardens. I do hope you enjoyed the tour of these premier gardens and explosion of color through my lenses. If you live in driving distance to these magnificent gardens, don't miss out on the opportunity to experience them up close and personal.
Have a wonderful day!

Holland in Haymarket - Festival of Spring

Juggling a hectic schedule on weekdays can drain you. My family and I decided it was time to slow down over the weekend and head outdoors to explore the "Holland in Haymarket - Festival of Spring”. With overcast skies and a sudden drop in temps, we went ahead with our plans anyway as we are big fans of supporting local businesses. Hosted by Burnside Farms in VA, the event is one of the largest pick-your-own flower events in the world!

With more than five acres of spring flowers in bloom, the sweeps of resonant colors were breath taking! Burnside is a darling little seasonal farm that offers a selection of both "conventional" fruits, veggies and local organic offerings. Also available at the market place are jams, jellies, pickles, and other "canned" foods. However, what interested us was definitely the colorful blooms of daffodils and tulips that carpeted the fields.
You are aware of my fascination with tulips.....To see so many varieties of tulips on display was truly spectacular. The "Regular Tulips" (as I like to call them) were dressed in a consistent color and had a simple structure to them, while the Peony Tulips were grand in every sense of the word with multiple layers of petals. They also had the Lily Flowered Tulips that were getting ready to put on a show of their own in a day or two. My little guy wanted to be my helper and pick the flowers for me. So with our basket in hand and a quick read of “how to pick the tulips guidelines” we had our own little bouquet of flowers to bring home with us!
We spent a good two hours at this place! It was a welcoming change from the daily grind and the folks running the place made the experience an enjoyable one. They had a good system in place to keep the flow of traffic structured. The parking lot can get crowded on weekends I’m told but since we reached early on the scene, we did not have to deal with any such issues. It's a flower lover’s paradise and offers some wonderful opportunities to take some lovely family pictures. If you live in driving distance to this wonderful farm, make sure you don’t miss out on this opportunity! (Tip: Before you head out make sure you check their updates about the blooms on their Facebook page).
A look at the blooms that I brought home adding cheer to a corner of my living room......
Hope all that color helped to cope with the Monday morning blues! Have a fantastic week ahead:)

Happy Women's Day !

Happy Women's Day to all the women folk out there!!!
This picture is more than a bunch of  pretty tulips and the crackling fire - to me the tulips are symbolic of the gentle nature and breathtaking beauty of every woman and the fire is figuratively speaking her inner zeal, passion and emotional intensity with which she nurtures, protects, heals, loves and gives with all her heart. Know that you are strong, beautiful, intelligent, sexy, inspiring, invincible - or to put it simply "INCREDIBLE IN EVERY WAY" !

Monday Morning Bliss and a Run-through of what's in store for the month of March !

On a cold wintry Monday morning, sunlight streaming in through the huge windows lining the breakfast nook, the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon pumpkin muffins escaping the oven and tempting one to devour the freshly baked goodies even before they can cool :) And a steaming hot cup of freshly brewed tea to accompany them! It doesn't get any better than this, does it?

Now for a little run-through of what's in store this month. At TECD, I like serving up a medley of  inspirational posts. I kick off the month with a colorful Holi post as captured through my lens. Among other things this month, the spot light is on oriental decor. I share my resource guide to shop for the best and most authentic of zen and Asian inspired decor. In the home tour segment, we are traveling all the way to Vietnam to tour a beautiful-beautiful home:) I'm so excited  about this feature, I can hardly wait to share this with you!

If that does not satiate your thirst and you want more, well I have more. How about a tour of a quaint boutique hotel and a look at how my decor style and home has evolved over the years? So what say, are you ready to roll with me ?
I just love how everything else in the picture has a silhouette feel and only the amber liquid is highlighted.
How about another cup before I sign off for today and head out to tackle the day's "to-do" list?

What a terrific week it has been!

Wow ! What an eventful week it has been....The response to the home tour feature has been phenomenal. I couldn't be happier! We have crossed 6K+ followers on Facebook :) I'd like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to all my new readers! I'm delighted to connect with such wonderful people, who make the interaction, the best part of what I do. So for those of you who are new to TECD and would like to get to know more about the blog and the person holding the creative reins of TECD, the timing couldn't be better.
TECD made it to the  Houzify's "Blogs We Love" List. Houzify is a Bangalore based start up that is in its nascent stage. They plan to launch a mobile app for interior design which functions as a curated platform for home owners, professionals, retailers and bloggers, all coming together to create a dedicated community for home design. In their own words, "Houzify is a curated platform to discover and act on your love for home design and interiors". At this point in time, all I can share with you is that the company is lead by a group of accomplished individuals with experience of over 25 years in combined operational and domain and having worked with leading companies like InMobi & Google and graduated from Domus Academy, Milan (rated one of the top 30 design schools in the world by Business Week). So conclusion, a promising company - one to look out for! They are currently working on creating a curated database of beautiful homes, that can be used as inspiration by everyone for their own home decor projects. Will be sharing more on them soon but in the meantime you may read the TECD feature on Houzify right here.
On a different note, wanted to thank these generous people for such wonderful gifts. The first being a gorgeous silk kantha stole and a beautiful handmade bracelet from Mayil Scarves, that arrived this week. Such bright and happy colors, drove away my winter woes for sure. I can't wait for spring to show up so that I can flaunt this beautiful stole:) Thank you Madavi that was a lovely, lovely gesture. ( I've featured Mayil on my blog, you could read more about them right here.)

The second being a beautiful pair of earrings from the Narangi collection of Studio Silver Paisley (SSP). Thank you Seeta, these are simply gorgeous and have become my absolute go to earrings when I need to dress up ! (You can see me sporting these beauties right here and read more about SSP here.)
This week was also very special because we celebrated my son's eighth year birthday. Time just flies.....Not so long ago, I remember holding a little bundle of joy in my arms and just watching him for hours together:) And now I have a little boy who is almost up to my shoulders:) Those eyes and the puppy dog gaze is still the same and thank God for that!

Wishing each and every one of you a wonderful weekend with your loved ones.....

Hello Folks ! How are we doing today? I know it's the weekend and you are letting go off the reins so as to slow down, unwind and gear up for the next week.......Things have been hectic at my end too! But amidst all the chaos, I've managed to say "YES" to a few of the many creative opportunities that have come my way since I started this blog. TECD has been my mirror of sorts if I may say so......it has made me look at every creative aspect that I've ever wanted to indulge in. Be it interior designing, decor styling, photography or writing. Recently, avenues with respect to product styling have opened up and I couldn't be happier:)

Here is a sneak peek of my work for a New York based jewelry label that included product styling and photography. Want to see more ? A dedicated feature introducing the brand and its products coming up soon, so stay connected......

Tea and a Synopsis of what's in Store for the month of February

Come afternoon and I need my favorite brew......a steaming cup of chai. The daily grind can get to me at times, however I seek refuge in a simple cup of tea. It has an element of escapism for me. It gives a moment to breathe, relax and recharge. Nowadays, I find myself creating impromptu nooks in places where the golden rays of the sun stream in. A few cushions and a nubby wrap on the floor and I am all set to bask in the warmth of the sun. It almost makes me feel like a star with the sun rays creating a natural spotlight....
Now for the updates, in February I have a wonderful line up of very exciting and inspiring posts for you'll. The highlights being a brilliant artist feature, spotlight on a New York based jewelry line and a tempting giveaway to celebrate Valentine's Day! Wait I have more! With the overwhelming response that we received for the Subramaniyam's home, I have another fabulous home tour coming your way ! So stay connected.......

The Fancy Khullad

Virginia winters can be ruthless. But with a hot cup of my favorite brew - chai, the cold winter seems a little less fierce. My chai time has become a little more exotic and fancy these days with my new Khullad style tea cups. They momentarily whisk me away to India by conjuring up images of tea served street style.
These organic looking handmade ceramic tea cups from World Market are available in a variety of earthy  tones.  Their subtle variations and imperfectly perfect ridges, make the cups one-of-a -kind. The handle-less cups not only warm your insides but also keep those hands nice and warm, a comfort during winter. If you have been raking your brains for gift ideas this coming holiday season, these kitchen staples make perfect gifts without breaking your bank.

Have a wonderful day !!!

When life throws curve balls at you ………

First things first, big bear hugs to all those who have been writing in to check on me and have made me feel like my absence from the blogging scene does make a difference to them.……the feeling is mutual and I've missed you’ll too.
I've been away cause life has been hurling curve balls at me and I've been busy trying to get through this rough patch…..Most of you’ll living abroad will agree with me when I say that the entire ordeal of living away from ones family is demanding and exhausting to say the least. You can chat on the phone, Whats App and Skype all you want, but the bottom line is there are days when you just miss “them”. The one thing that I dread the most is to wake up to a call (from back home) at an unearthly hour…….you know something is wrong. A month back, one such call woke me up to the news that my mom had suffered a heart attack and with multiple blocks she needed immediate surgery. This came as an absolute shock to my family and I cause she’s one of the most disciplined people that I know of, when it comes to health and eating right.

So the past couple of weeks have been stressful. But all’s well that ends well. The surgery was a success and my brave lady is recovering well. This entire experience has not only made us stronger and wiser but has also made us realize the importance of the many things in life that we take for granted!!!

With me having to rush off to see my mom, my husband and son were left all alone to manage on their own. They did extremely well but the down side was I had some damage control to take care of when it came to the home front – the place looked like it had been hit by a tornado (but then again, boys will be boys ;). Another thing that was looming large was my final semester exams. But I’m done with all the studying and late nights and am back to my everyday routine, blogging and breathing regularly. From now on, we have our stream of cheerful vibrant posts coming your way. So stay connected and until next time keep warm!!!

Take a Break - it's Friday !!!

Friday is finally here !!! I'm getting ready to relax and unwind with my cuppa.......
"Here's a capture of my Teavana moment "
As much I love having a routine and rhythm to my daily schedule, come Friday and it's time to slow down, take a breather and break free. Schools have resumed and the past week has been all about sticking to time schedules and I've been in the "I-need-to-get-it-all-done" mode. I could seriously use some "me time".

However things are on a roll on the blogging front. I've been coordinating with some very creative and talented folks and I'm truly excited about bringing some inspiring and resourceful posts to you'll very soon. So stay connected.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend and make sure to take some time out to celebrate a Teavana moment yourself:)

New York City (Through My lens) - Part 2

In today's post, I'm going to let my captures of the engineering and architectural icons of New York City do the talking for me :) When it comes to photography, the power of black and white is indubitable. I think, monochromatic tones give the images an artistic, timeless feel and challenges the dexterity of a person looking through the lens. I do hope that you, my lovely readers will agree with me, when I say that NYC looks stunning  in these images...........
