Just the word NOOK, fosters the warm and fuzzy feeling that is indispensable, for autumn comes knocking on our doors. The leaves have begun to sport the oranges, umbers and golds. The trees in my neighborhood have picked out their attire for the next 3 months and are in the mood for subtle shades of yellow, reds and oranges, that are bound to turn to more richer shades in the months to come.
In colder weather, a nice nook entices me to relax on a lazy afternoon and indulge in a good read, dream away while taking a nap, sit and enjoy the aroma and flavor of a steaming hot cup of ginger tea, or just snuggle with a loved one and watch the leaves or rain dance by the window.Technology is great, but it's always nice to be "unplugged" and have a real conversation, play a board game or randomly do any of the above. It sounds like a perfect plan, especially on a Saturday afternoon knowing that you can procrastinate, as Sunday is always there to deal with the to-do list. I think if we had to pick a favorite day of the week, Saturday would be a topper :)
I've put together some of my favorite nooks in various styles. The Boho chic look has to be my favorite with things falling in place almost by themselves as there are no rules to follow. The genre of furniture or textile can be mis-matched yet look cohesive together. So, the playground is yours and you can express yourself with pieces and things you love. I have a penchant for lavishness when it comes to pillows and textiles. The rule "the more the merrier" applies to friends and pillows alike.
No one can go wrong with a day bed or a comfy couch and pile-high cushions in brilliant hues or textures - kilims and suzanis, top the list for me.
This image drew me to it instantly , even though it's not boho in any context. The pine cones in the basket would be swapped out to hold some wonderful books close at hand when you need it. This reminded me of my own garage sale find for $2 right here. The built in is an optimal solution to the storage wars that we have to deal with constantly. And the window is flawless, as it beautifully frames the views to the outside. What is there not to love about this picture?????
A nook in the kitchen is something I always long for. A perfect place to enjoy a quick cup of coffee with a friend that drops in or to rest those feet in between cooking sessions. As we all know, Indian cooking is no easy feat. This nook is icing on the cake.
Tucked away under the stairs, this alcove is a darling. An absolutely wonderful way to exploit the dead space.
What's even better is if you have a loft, a place you can call your den and escape to, then that's the perfect place for a nook.
I've also included some Moroccan flair for those of you who can't get enough of it. I can't wait to travel to this place. I'm sure my husband has a reason for not taking me there, as he's well aware of my love affair with all things Marrakesh.
Got a tight space, no problem. A comfortable chair is a perfect surrogate for the day bed/ couch or a built-in. The spotless white chair in the Scandi-style or the Moroccan flair lounging chair is ideal, with a throw to keep your feet warm and a cup of hot tea to warm you from the inside. Again more Moroccan love with the chair in the second pic below. You could stretch your legs out or cuddle up for a quick siesta in the afternoons.
Coming up tomorrow is my very own nook.
Have a wonderful day !!!!
You are right, you will love Marrakesh - it is an out of this world experience.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure - I'd like to experience it sooner than later though.
