My Nook Love

Hello and Good Morning !!!
As promised, today I'd like to share "MY" very own reading nook. This space is dedicated just for me, so I had no limitations on incorporating fuchsia. If not, it's usually a struggle because I'm  out numbered by the two men in my life and any hue of pink is a total no-no. This is the one space I retreat to when I need some "me" time. The windows offer a view of the wonderful tree save line that is an extension of our backyard. Ample light, glorious sun streaming in and happy colors make this space what it is.

This nook is done up in bright hues of fuchsia and orange with a hint of teal and apple green. I chose a chatai or paai (an Indian straw mat) to ground the space. The mat is natural, eco-friendly, easy to maintain and has an amazing texture. This reminds  me of the good old days back in India (especially summer) when we used to carry these mats up to the terrace and star gaze. The stars kept us company while my sister and I giggled and chatted about anything and everything under the sun.......

You don't need anything elaborate to create a private nook. A couple of cushions and some accessories is all it took me to bring this space alive. I had to have my two favorite Buddhas to keep me company, as they echo the "Keep Calm and Carry On" mantra. The mother of pearl votive holders dyed in tones of green and pink add the right amount of drama and mood light when I need it. Their unique shape mimic my favorite Indian lotus flower.

The straw tray was originally meant to be a charger plate. I loved the texture and it was sturdy enough to be used as a tray. I was completely sold on the shell detail. As for the little red Chinese foot stool, it was a flea market find (I've used it as a mini side table) and hosts my African violet and a bunch of pretty carnations.
Loved the sun light streaming into the room and the shells making a  pretty pattern on the straw mat.

Hope you enjoyed the tour of my little nook.Would love to hear what you have to say about your favorite nooks and spaces. Do drop me a line or two and have a wonderful week ahead :)

    3. Congratulations!!!! That's wonderful. I remember how exciting those days were when ur trying to set up a new home and finding the right ground to exhibit ur style as a couple. Don't rush into buying anything unless you love it. The pieces you invest in are going be around for a long time. So think wisely. Start with an artwork u love or a color theme. I always like the bigger pieces (like the couch) to be kind of neutral as I can change the look by just swapping out the cushions. Drop me a line at theeastcoastdesi@gmail.com and I'd be glad to help you.
Take care and all the very best !!!!
